Victoria Nyeche (Victoria Wobo Nyeche) was born into the family of Chief Wobo Nyeche in Oro-ochiri, Elekahia in Port Harcourt City Local Government, Rivers State. Her Educational/Professional Qualification include B.Sc Chemistry, M.Tech Chemical Engineering, M.Sc Environmental And Resource Management, Registered Environmental Specialist.
She had her post-primary education at the Federal Government Girls College, Abuloma in Port Harcourt. She then proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt to study Chemistry and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Honours degree in 1989. She holds two Masters Degrees, first in Chemical Engineering from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology now Rivers State University and in Environment & Natural Management from the University of Port Harcourt.
Hon. Victoria Wobo Nyeche worked at Schlumberger Geoquest from 1991 to 1994 as a Data Services Engineer. She afterwards joined the family business, Princess Beawo Ltd., where she played a vital role as the Chief Operating Officer and gained more experience that motivated this enterprising lady to start her own company in April 2002.
Awa Engineering, one of the leading Environmental consultancy firms in Nigeria, has striven from strength to strength since incorporation. She however had to resign in response to a yearning to contribute her quota to the development of her State and now serves as Chairman of the Board in a non-executive capacity. Hon. Nyeche has worked as Special Assistant to Secretary to Rivers State Government, Dame Aleruchi CookeyGam, between 2002 and 2003 and Technical Assistant to Hon. Dakuku Peterside as Honourable commissioner for works from 2007 to 2011.
She resigned from the position early in 2011 to run for the Port Harcourt Constituency 1 seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and subsequently emerged winner at the general elections in April of that year. Known for her deep commitment and hard work, she got an overwhelming victory in the primary elections amongst other contenders for the Peoples Democratic Party’s ticket, as a result of her unrelenting and c o m p r e h e n s i v e i s s u e s – b a s e d campaign for the votes of her people. On assumption of office, she created different avenues to empower youths and women in PHALGA 1 Constituency.
To her credit is the creation of PHALGA 1Widows Forum as well as the PHALGA Constituency 1 Tournament in fulfillment of pre-elected promises. Engineer Nyeche had already disbursed interest-free soft loans to widows in her Constituency as part of her micro-credit scheme for constituents. The PHALGA 1 representative in her bid to better the lives of youths in the area has also commenced work on her plans to help exceptionally talented footballers advance their professional careers by exposing them to opportunities to sign for football clubs both in Nigeria and abroad.
Already, one of the beneficiaries of this vision, Chimenem Omodu, has been signed-on by Dolphin FC of Port Harcourt. Similar to the PHALGA 1 Widows Forum, the PHALGA 1 Constituency Football tournament is annual event. Also, in tandem with the spirit of transparency in public service, to ensure communication of the happenings in the Rivers State House of Assembly and inform her people on her own activities, she founded the ekere newsletter.
The medium is equally saddled with the responsibility to source and publicize existing job opportunities to enable interested and qualified persons secure employment. The introduction of the newsletter, ekere, itself is the first by a Member of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Hon.
Nyeche just in her early stay in the Assembly during her first tenure sponsored a human-angle bill titled the Handicapped Persons’ Welfare Enhancement 2011, which has since been passed into law and assented to by the former Governor of Rivers State H.E Rt. Hon. Chibuike R. Amaechi. This the Honourable did to drive her zeal and to make life better for all citizens and to protect the physically persons in the society.
Hon.Nyeche also served as the House Committee Chairman in Environment actively participated in the making of good laws through quality contributions and effective representation. All these and more both inside and outside earned her the most Outstanding New Legislator Award by her colleagues in the 7th session of the Rivers State House of Assembly. As part of her constituency reward for h e r g i a n t s t r i d e s i n infrastructural/Human Capital development in the constituency, Hon. Nyeche was re-elected for a second term to the Rivers State House of Assembly to continue her good works.
Since her re-election as the only woman in the 8th session of Rivers State House of Assembly and having been elected on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), she has remained a vocal and the alternative voice in the chamber that has stood against antipeople policies and laws also has sponsored the Rivers State Annual Thanksgiving Day Bill 2017, this bill which is in its second reading seeks to set aside a special day in every year to celebrate ourselves and to thank God for the numerous things He has been doing for Rivers people since the creation of the state.
Other bill sponsored by her lying at the table of the clerk waiting for legislative scheduling is the Senior Citizens Welfare Enhancement Bill 2017, this will seek to improve and better the welfare of the aged/elderly in the state.
SOCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATIONS
Hon. Victoria Nyeche is a one-time president of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Rivers State Chapter. She was also National Executive Vice President of … the JCI and is a Member of the Nigeria Society of Chemical Engineers.She is the first graduate of the African Academy for Young Leaders organized by the Junior Chamber International; a certified Trainee from the JCI University and a member of the JCI Senate.
The latter is the highest Honours Conferrable on a Socia and Professional Accreditations distinguished member of the international organisation I.W.F. She is also the President General Ikwerre Women Forum Worldwide, an umbrella body of all ikwerre women that consists of the four Iwhuruonha speaking local government areas in Rivers State, namely; Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpo, Emohua and Ikwerre.
Engr. Victoria Nyeche is a proud mother and a wonderful family person with a heart of gold. Humble, straightforward and unassumingly nice, she is highly disciplined and has great respect for God and Humanity.
